The Phantom Energy Menace: Is the Cosmos Doomed to a Big Rip?
What does phantom energy, a possible candidate for the hidden agent accelerating the universe, mean for the future of the cosmos? Is the universe fated to be torn into shreds? Read my latest contribution to NOVA's The Nature of Reality Blog
Is the following relevant to this topic? If gravity propagates over distance at finite velocity (rather that instantaneously), then orbiting bodies would be accelerated due to the angular displacement of the gravitational force vector from the center of gravity. This would violate the principle of conservation of energy. I posted this notion some time ago on my website physicsfixes.zzl.org but did not until now question conservation of energy; I believed gravity must be instantaneous.
Such a fascinating and open region of scientific exploration...excellent blog.
